What: Spring Fling Recycling hosted by the Cities of Merriam and Shawnee When: Saturday, May 4, 2019, from 8-11 a.m. Where: Former Kmart Parking Lot, 8703 Shawnee Mission Parkway. Enter line at Antioch Road and W. 64th Terrace.
The Cities of Merriam and Shawnee are once again collaborating on a community-wide recycling event to provide an opportunity for residents to drop off a variety of items in one convenient location. Accepted items include consumer electronics, batteries, bicycles, latex paint, and old documents that will be securely and professionally shredded. Eyeglasses and jeans will also be collected. Please note we're NOT collecting cardboard or paper (non-shredding.)
Most items will be recycled for free, but there will be a $25 charge to recycle tube televisions and a $15 charge for tube computer monitors. A donation of $5 per regular-sized file box and $10 per large file box is suggested for document shredding, a portion of which will benefit the Merriam Parks, Recreation, and Community Center Foundation and the Shawnee Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund. CASH ONLY, PLEASE. Bicycles brought to the event will be refurbished and redistributed to various community organizations by the City of Shawnee.
Johnson County Household Hazardous will collect latex paint. No paint from commercial institutions, oil-based paint, or other household hazardous items will be accepted.
